Palazzo Madama

The Palazzo Madama palace complex in Turin, built on the site of an ancient Roman camp using the fortifications of that time. The facade of the palazzo, completed in 1721, is a dry example of northern Italian Baroque as interpreted by Filippo Juvarra. The back of the building retains the appearance of a gloomy medieval castle, with round towers at the corners, which it acquired in the 15th century.
