Sculpture Walking Man by Alberto Giacometti

Exploring the human figure from different angles, Alberto Giacometti created Walking Man I, a sculpture from his period of maturity, the culmination of his artistic career. The precariousness of the figure is related to the limits in which each person has to live in a society subject to numerous conflicts and challenges, as well as natural and man-made disasters. The face of the man is barely outlined, in this way the sculptor wanted to show all of humanity and thus strengthen the universal character of what is represented in the work, evoking a sense of identification in each viewer.
The sculpture is made of a solid piece of bronze. The sculpture's un-polished surface gives it a distressed, desolate and even skeletal appearance. Nothing but the most basic forms can be discerned in this solitary male figure. The sculpture measures 180.5 x 27 x 97 cm.
