KJ 500 Low-poly (PBR)

The KJ-500 is a Chinese airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft developed by the Xi'an Aircraft Industrial Corporation for the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). Based on the Y-9 medium transport aircraft, the KJ-500 integrates advanced radar systems and battle management capabilities, positioning it as a critical component in China’s network-centric warfare strategy.

One of the defining features of the KJ-500 is its dorsal-mounted phased array radar, enclosed within a large, fixed radome disc atop the fuselage. Unlike traditional rotating radars, this fixed disc houses three active electronically scanned arrays (AESA) oriented at 120° intervals to provide full 360-degree surveillance coverage. This allows the KJ-500 to detect, track, and identify air and surface targets with high accuracy and speed.

The airframe includes four turboprop engines, a high-wing configuration, and a T-tail, contributing to stable flight characteristics at high altitudes during prolonged surveillance missions. Internally, it is equipped with sophisticated communication suites, electronic warfare systems, and command-and-control interfaces for coordinating friendly forces and relaying real-time battlefield data.
