The HMS Rawalpindi was an armed merchant cruiser that played a notable role during the early stages of World War II. Originally built as a passenger liner for the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) in 1925, she was requisitioned by the Royal Navy in 1939, like many other civilian ships, to be converted for military use due to the urgent need for naval vessels.
