The Spitfire Mk 1A saw nearly 22,000 hours of combat during the Second World War and was an essential element in defending Britain from Nazi Luftwaffe attacks during Battle of Britain. It had incredible manoeuvrability, flying at over 360mph with its low wing configuration making it a formidable dog-fighter. Although significant development was invested into developing this aircraft over time, eventually being replaced by Hawker Hurricane - which still stands today as a monument to RAF Fighter Command's proud history.
