Lancia Rally 037 WRC Group B 1983

The Lancia Rally 037 Group B from 1983 is a legendary mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive rally car built for the notorious Group B era. With a bold wedge-shaped profile, flared wheel arches, and distinctive quad headlights, it evokes a raw, aggressive presence. Its lightweight composite body and oversized rear wing aren’t just for show - they hint at its ferocious performance and aerodynamic prowess.
Developed jointly by Lancia, Abarth, Pininfarina, Dallara, and engineer Sergio Limone, this homologation special used a central tub from the Montecarlo road car but featured bespoke front and rear tubular frames supporting independent double wishbone suspension. A 2.0 L supercharged inline-four mounted longitudinally delivered thrilling power, making it one of the final two-wheel-drive champions on the WRC stage.
Just 200 road cars were built to meet Group B rules, with about 217 total units produced between 1982 and 1984. In its 1983 Evoluzione 2 form, displacement was increased to 2.1 L, output exceeded 325 hp, and chassis and aero refinements were applied to push the car to the edge of rear-wheel-drive performance.
Though outpaced by emerging all-wheel-drive rivals by the mid-1980s, the Lancia 037 remains an iconic symbol of engineering boldness and rallying heritage - a masterful blend of lightness, power, and classic Italian motorsport artistry.
