Groovy Armchair by Pierre Paulin (for Artifort)

Artifort's Groovy Armchair was designed by Pierre Paulin in the 1970s. It was a stylish chair that had a sculptural design. The chair's seat was upholstered in a warm brownish gray Italian boucle fabric. In terms of comfort, this chair was a winner.
For a long time, Paulin's name was synonymous with furniture design, particularly in the swanky world of high-end interiors. His style combined classic aesthetics with modern materials. During the 60s, his work was sought after by elite clients. Some of his earliest commissions were for the government. He was also a prolific designer of home appliances.
The Artifort Groovy Armchair is one of the most sought after lounge chairs in the world. The chair was made by the company in Holland. Interestingly, the manufacturer used "Epeda" springs, which were already in use in mattresses. This innovation allowed them to create more comfortable designs.
Although the Groovy is one of the most popular Artifort pieces, it isn't the only model in the company's catalog. They also manufacture a wide variety of other chairs, including the aforementioned M chair and the Bone chair. Another cult favorite, the Elysee fabric armchair was designed for the French presidential palace in the 70s.
Other designs, like the CM 131 chair and the aforementioned Elysee, have been reissued by Ligne Roset. Artifort has collaborated with a long list of notable designers, including Gijs Bakker, Jasper Morrison, Patrick Norguet, and Rene Holten. Their products are available in some of the most prestigious museums in the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.
