Ivy for the Fence V2

Ivy is an attractive plant that can envelop walls and fences in green, giving them the appearance of being grown from nature itself. Not only does it add privacy to a yard, but it can also reduce energy costs by shading a home.
Many types of ivy can be used to cover fences and walls, including the Virginia Creeper (Clematis virginiana). To grow successfully, these vines require well-draining soil with a pH range between 5.5-6.5; they tolerate partial shade as well as being evergreen in some varieties.
When selecting ivy for your fence, select one that is resistant to diseases and pests. Furthermore, ensure the ivy does not smother or damage your fence in any way.
Planting ivy is best done during spring or early summer when temperatures are warm. You can plant it either directly into the ground or in pots; just remember to water regularly to maintain moisture.
If you have ivy growing on a chain-link fence, the stems should be pruned to control its growth. To do this, hold the stems with one hand and use either a small pruning scissor, sharp scissor or garden knife on the other.
Once the ivy has been removed, weed killer should be applied. You can choose either chemical or natural options with either vinegar or salt bases. Boiling vines also works to kill them and prevent new growth - just be careful not to burn yourself in the process!
