Type 5 Chi-Ri Medium Tank

The Type 5 Chi-Ri was a prototype medium tank developed by Japan during World War II. It was intended to be a successor to the previous Type 4 Chi-To tank. The Chi-Ri featured a larger and more powerful engine, thicker armor, and an improved suspension system compared to its predecessor.
The tank had a crew of five and was armed with a 75mm Type 5 tank gun, which had a semi-automatic loading system. It also had two 7.7mm machine guns mounted on the turret for anti-aircraft defense. The Chi-Ri had a unique elongated hull design with a sloped front glacis plate to provide increased protection.
Despite the promising design, the Chi-Ri never entered full production, and only one prototype was completed by the end of the war. The tank saw limited testing and did not see any combat action. Today, the sole surviving Chi-Ri prototype is preserved at the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Ordnance School in Tsuchiura, Japan.
