2TE116 M train (PBR)

The 2TE116 M train, produced in Luhansk, Ukraine, is one of the most common freight diesel locomotives used throughout Russia and post-Soviet countries. It features AC-DC electronic clutch regulation along with ED-118 traction motors for heavy haulage operations.
The primary purpose of the train is to transport iron ore pellets (taconite) from Kostomuksha, Russia to Oulu, Finland. These 60-car unit trains weigh 5,400 tonnes (5,310 long tons; 5,950 short tons) and are pulled by two Sr2 class electric locomotives operating at 25 kV 50 Hz AC in Finland while in Russia they use double-section 2TE116 class diesel locomotives.
Though trains can reach speeds of 70 km/h, they must take care when cornering. Doing so could cause cars and wagons to come off the track and derailed, resulting in damage to both rail infrastructure and passengers on board.
In order to reduce the negative impact of trains on rail networks, a mechatronic system for positioning wheel pairs is proposed. This technology will significantly reduce guiding forces and minimize wheelpairs' angle of attack when moving along curves at various speeds.
