Ara ararauna (PBR)

The Blue-and-yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna) is a large parrot native to tropical South America that belongs to the macaw family of neotropical parrots.
This bird can grow to a length of 76-86 cm (30-34 in), and weigh 0.900-1.5 kg (2-3 lb). It features vibrantly colored plumage with blue top parts, light orange underparts, and green gradient hues on the head.
It has a long, sickle-shaped beak which it uses to crack open seeds, nuts and other hard-shelled foods. Additionally, it consumes fruits, flowers and leaves.
This species is found throughout tropical South America, including south-western Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Surinam, French Guiana, Brazil and Bolivia. Listed as a least concern species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List, its populations have been declining steadily over time.
At present, this neotropical parrot is not considered vulnerable under IUCN's Vulnerable criteria due to its expansive range and declining population trend. Nevertheless, active conservation efforts are necessary in order to safeguard its future.
The blue-and-yellow macaw is primarily found in tropical South American forest (especially varzea, but also open sections of terra firme or unflooded forest), woodland and savannah areas. It's most common within the Amazon Basin but may also be observed elsewhere such as southern Brazil, Paraguay or Surinam.
The blue-and-yellow macaw consumes a variety of plant materials, such as seeds and nuts. It particularly enjoys fruit which provides both energy and essential nutrients.
