PL-12 Missile (China air-to-air missile) (PBR)

China is developing the PL-12 (SD-10), an active radar-guided medium range beyond visual range air-to-air missile. This weapon has been seen flying on Chinese fighter aircraft since 2015 and could soon enter frontline service.
It is believed that the missile began development around 2011 and entered operational service in 2016. When combined with J-11B and J-20 aircraft, it provides a more potent threat against stealthy fighters which do not carry conventionally guided AAMs.
PL-12 features a dual pulse rocket motor to extend its range and has two-way datalink for dynamic retargeting in flight.
The missile's seeker utilizes active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology for increased accuracy and enhanced ECM protection. It can operate in both active and passive modes.
The PL-12 programme received Russian missile-technology assistance, but Beijing is increasingly developing weapons of its own accord, including the PL-10 which offers significantly improved performance over its predecessors and was showcased at Zhuhai Airshow in 2016. A new weapon codenamed PL-15 may soon enter frontline service as well.
