Anti-personnel bouncing mine OZM-72 (PBR)

The OZM-72 is a Soviet-designed anti-personnel mine known for its characteristic "bouncing" mechanism. This mine is specifically engineered to inflict damage over a wide area by projecting lethal fragments into the air upon activation.
The casing of the OZM-72 is cylindrical and made of metal, with grooves on its exterior to facilitate better fragmentation. It stands approximately 18 cm tall and has a diameter of about 10 cm. The mine weighs around 6 kilograms, making it relatively portable for deployment by infantry.
The OZM-72 is activated via tripwire or command detonation. Once triggered, a small explosive charge launches the main body of the mine into the air, typically to a height of about 1-1.5 meters. At this altitude, a secondary charge detonates, dispersing shrapnel in all directions. This design maximizes its effectiveness against personnel within a radius of up to 25 meters.
The mine can be used with various fuzes, such as the MUV or MVZ, which are connected to tripwires or detonators. Its versatility allows it to be adapted to different tactical scenarios, from defensive perimeters to ambush setups.
While effective, the OZM-72 poses significant danger to non-combatants and remains a hazard long after conflicts end, contributing to the ongoing problem of unexploded ordnance in former war zones.
