1924 Alfa Romeo P2 car

The 1924 Alfa Romeo P2 is one of the iconic cars of its era, designed by Vittorio Jano - who had joined the company as Chief Engineer in 1923.
Jano had a knack for designing cars specifically designed for racing, and his first Alfa Romeo proved it. Constructed on a pressed-steel ladder frame with semielliptic leaf springs and Hartford friction dampers at the front and two rear springs mounted within chassis rails angled towards the rear, this car had an aerodynamic chassis.
Its engine was a straight-8 cylinder supercharged design with two carburetors placed after the compressor, making it look almost exactly like Fiat's Type 805!
In 1924, Antonio Ascari of Team P2 was ready for its maiden race at 200 mile circuit of Cremona. Driving for Team Ascari, this vehicle achieved an amazing average speed of 158 kilometers/hour during a thrilling victory.
Ascari won the P2 race at Lyons in France the following year and also took home the Italian Grand Prix with it in 1925. Additionally, his car was used to capture the first ever World Championship that year.
Although they had suffered some setbacks along the way, Alfa Romeo had achieved great success in Grand Prix racing by 1925 thanks to their talented team drivers and Vittorio Jano's brilliant design of P2.
